Latex Soft

A soft-grade latex binder for carpet-backing systems where adhesion, flexibility and the finished carpet handle must be considered together.

Product Overview

A flexible binder option for carpet backing

Latex Soft is offered for carpet-backing applications that require a softer, more flexible finished construction. Carpet latex binders are applied to the underside of the carpet as part of a formulated backing compound.

Depending on the carpet system, the binder can support pile anchorage, primary-to-secondary backing adhesion and the stability of the finished floor covering. Final performance depends on the complete compound, coating weight, filler package, drying conditions and carpet construction.

Because “Latex Soft” is a commercial grade description rather than a complete chemical specification, the polymer type and all test limits must be confirmed against the current supplier documentation before approval.

Application Areas

Designed around a softer carpet construction

Suitability depends on the exact grade, carpet structure, backing compound and production conditions.

01

Tufted Carpet Backing

Intended for evaluation in backing compounds used with tufted carpet constructions.

02

Secondary Backing

Can be assessed for bonding primary and secondary backing layers while retaining a softer finished handle.

03

Flexible Floor Coverings

Suitable for grade trials where the backing should support the carpet without creating an unnecessarily stiff feel.

04

Compounded Backing Systems

May be combined with approved fillers, thickeners and process additives after compatibility testing.

Before You Order

Match the latex to the carpet and coating process

A soft backing grade should be selected against the actual carpet construction, coating method and required finished properties. The polymer chemistry alone does not determine the final result.

Share your current specification, compound recipe or approved sample data where possible. This gives the team a clear basis for checking the available grade.

Discuss Your Requirement

Polymer & Film Character

Confirm polymer chemistry, Tg or flexibility indicator and the expected dry-film behaviour.

Processing Properties

Review solids content, viscosity, pH, stability and compatibility with the intended compound.

Carpet Performance

Evaluate adhesion, tuft lock, delamination resistance, lay-flat behaviour and finished handle as applicable.

Documents & Delivery

Confirm TDS, SDS, batch COA, packaging, required quantity and destination.

Storage & Handling

Protect the dispersion and follow the current SDS

The handling requirements for Latex Soft depend on its exact polymer composition, preservatives and additives. Personnel should work from the current supplier SDS rather than relying on the general product name.

  • Keep the original container tightly closed and prevent contamination during storage and transfer.
  • Maintain the supplier-recommended storage temperature and protect the dispersion from unsuitable temperature extremes.
  • Avoid direct eye or skin contact and use the ventilation and protective equipment specified in the SDS.
  • Follow approved procedures for spills, wastewater, disposal and cleaning of coating equipment.

This page provides general commercial information and does not replace the grade-specific SDS, workplace risk assessment or technical application trial.

Product Questions

Latex Soft FAQs

Grade documentation and application testing should be reviewed before commercial approval.

What is Latex Soft used for?

It is offered as a soft-grade binder for carpet-backing applications where a more flexible finished construction is required.

Is Latex Soft confirmed as SBR latex?

The product name alone does not confirm the polymer chemistry. Check the current supplier TDS before describing or approving it as SBR, acrylic or another latex type.

How is a soft grade different from medium or hard latex?

A soft grade is generally selected for a more flexible backing and handle. The measurable difference must be confirmed through the grade specification, dry-film data and carpet trials.

Can one carpet latex be substituted directly for another?

Not without evaluation. Polymer type, solids, viscosity, pH, filler compatibility, drying behaviour and adhesion can differ between grades.

Which documents should be requested?

Request the latest TDS and SDS together with a lot-specific COA for the exact material being supplied.
